(1) Yahweh sent a humongous fish to swallow Jonah and he was in the belly of the fish three days and three nights. (2) So Jonah prayed to Yahweh (his God) from the belly of the fish. (3) He said, "I cried out to Yahweh in my distress and he answered me. From the belly of She'ol I called for help; he heard my voice! (4) For you cast me into the deep, into the heart of the seas; the current swirled me all around and all your breakers and waves passed over me. (5) I said, therefore, "I am cast out from your sight. How again will I gaze upon your holy Temple?" (6) Water encompassed me up to my throat; the deep sea surrounded me; seaweed wrapped around my head. (7) I descended to the remotest of mountains; the land bar is ever about me; yet you have brought my life up from the grave, Yahweh my God. (8) In my feeble soul, I remembered Yahweh; my prayer came to your sacred Temple. (9) Those who cling to vain emptiness forsake mercy. (10) And I, in a voice of thanksgiving will offer the sacrifice unto you; what I vow I shall pay. Salvation comes from Yahweh. (11) Yahweh spoke to the fish and it spewed Jonah out onto dry land.
